Instructional Snapshot
Class begins with a brainstorming activity in which students identify ways social media has become an outlet for people to express their identity and culture. For example, students might share that social media helps them showcase their interests, friendships, or humor, giving others a window into their lives.
Next, students view a slideshow of social media posts from the 2026 World Cup, looking for patterns that reveal shared humanity. Working in groups, students sort the images into three to four student-created categories and explain the reasoning behind their choices.
As a class, students then discuss similarities and differences among the categories, noting images that could fit into multiple groups. Finally, students craft a title for each sorted category based on why those images were sorted together. Use the group titles to produce a definition of humanity.
